Job Summary:
Homemakers provide general assistance to clients to help maintain independent living such as: light housekeeping, home management, socialization and companionship, family support and errands. This level of care doesn't require hands on services.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Follows all written instructions as determined by client/responsible parties within limits of the Agency's policies for homemaker as written on the service plan.
- Provides socialization, conversation and emotional reassurance to the client.
- Encourages and participates in reading, appropriate games, and other activities to promote well-being and stimulate the mind and the spirit.
- Provides for safety by using the principles of health and safety in relation to self and client, as follows:
- Identifies and report safety hazards
- Follows assigned safety precautions
- Practices health protection and cleanliness by appropriate techniques of hand washing, waste disposal and household tasks
- Provides escort services, such as accompanying the client to scheduled appointments, shopping or errands.
- Take care of pets and water the plants.
- Encourages and supervises the maintenance of clean and healthy environment.
- Assist with home management i.e. monitoring food expirations, assist with mail, order groceries/home supplies
- Provides housekeeping duties such as:
- Kitchen (washing dishes, wiping/disinfecting sinks and countertops)
- Bathroom (wiping/disinfecting sinks, countertops, tubs and toilets)
- Bedroom (bed making/changing linen)
- Laundry (light personal laundry: washing, drying, folding, ironing, putting away)
- Light vacuuming and dusting
- Change linens on clients unoccupied bed
- Assists the client to achieve or maintain adequate nutrition and hydration by assisting with grocery shopping, simple meal or snack preparation.
- Encourages/supervises appropriate personal hygiene
- Reminds and encourages daily exercise
- Empty urinals and bedside commodes
- Medications: provides timely medication reminds and reports concerns to supervisor
- Works with client and family with maturity, compassion, empathy, and confidentiality at all times
- Notifies the office of any change in the clients status or home environment or an emergency
- Notifies the office in a timely manner of the need for cancellation or change in coverage
- Completes documentation promptly and legibly in the appropriate section of the client record
- Attends all in-service training
Physical Requirements:
- Regularly required to sit, stand and walk on variable surfaces
- Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and talk or hear
- Occasionally required to reach beyond mid-line of body overhead/chest level
- Occasionally use hand controls including grip using one or both hands
- Occasionally climb ramps or stairs or use foot controls
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
- Employees are required to utilize universal safety precautions while performing their job tasks
- Ability to lift, push, pull and carry a minimum of 50lbs
- Ability to stoop and bending up to 2.5 hours per 8 hour shift
Education/Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred
- Satisfactory completion of Agency qualifying exam
- One (1) year current experience (within past five (5) years) as a homemaker in the home healthcare setting
- Possesses an empathetic attitude towards clients
- Ability to read and write English
- Successful completion of state required basic homemaker training in accordance with FAC 59A-8,0095(12)
- Must have current HIV training and ADRD training
